 Extra column when expor to excel?

Anyone having issue with RS exporting reports to excel and getting extra columns? I seem to be getting this on numerous reports. This makes it very hard for the user to sort or link the spreadsheet to other reports or datasource.

What it does is that one column in RS might have 2 or 3 extra blank columns when exporting to Excel. When we went to sort, it keeps saying that we need to merge the cells. After deleting the cells, it seems to function fine. I wonder if anyone has this issue and found a fix or workaround.
