Hi,

I have my tempdb database in a disk with 40gb free. Few days ago it used all freespace. After shrink the database file I added anoter filhe in other disk with 50gb free.

Last night all 40gb of the first disk was full again and TEMPDB didn't use the new second disk's space.

the two files is in primary group.

What can I do to make TEMPDB use the space of my two disks?

This is just my opinion, but if you've got tempdb using 40GB, i'd say you a bigger problem than trying to get tempdn to use 2 drives...

How big are the tranny logs? Are you performing maint on them?

Check this...in Enterprise Manager, right click on tempDB and select properties...look at the data and log files and let use know what hey say...

The tempdb uses 40gb only when I run certain scripts, once per month. And it wants to use more. So I add a new disk. But the second file have not been used.

Sounds like you need to work on those scripts, instead of worrying about using the second disk for tempdb.

How big is your database? How big are the tables you are working with?

The database is 25Gb
and the bigest tables have 9gb and 5gb.
I have to work on this script. I know, but not now. I still don't have authority to change it. Just to deal with its effects.
And the most recent effect is that this script use more than 40gb, I must run it, I can't change its code, so I put another disk. But the SQL server refuses to use this new disk.

you can point your temp db files to the new disk which will have more disk space; we have a reporting sertver on that we have oe disk where we only have temp db files

Did yo create a new file group and file on the new drive? Did you look up ALTER or CREATE DATABASE in books online?
