Look at "operating systems, supported by SQL Server editions" in Books Online. You can't install EE or Standard on NT/2k Workstation. What verson of SQL2k are you trying to install?

Installs only on a WinX Server OS. Maybe a work around, but I'm not aware of it. You get the same message when doing an install on XP.

Its actually simple, it didnt allow you 'cause you were trying to install the server version on the workstation

there are basically two types, (more actually) the developer and enterprise

Choose the developer and it would work for you
