| HelloMy experience a very much with MS Access (VBA, Report, Query...etc). I did manage MS SQL server 7.0 with very little administrating work. My objective is to be a certified DBA. I started reading this book: MS Press SQL Server System Administration 2nd Edition. After reading other resources on the internet, I just feel the MS Press book is for someone to put his feet in the water AND IT STOPS THERE. In order to be a DBA, I need a book that guides me through the work cycle of real-life DBAs. This book applies real scenerio or projects for me to put my hands on. It also introduces me many popular Trans-SQL syntax that DBAs are using to administrating databases. After finishing the book, I feel more confident to be a DBACan oneone introduce a that dream book that I am looking for. Thank you in advance. |

| The best DBA book out there is Kalen Delaney's Inside Microsft SQL Server 2000. You won't find a book that covers all of your needs though. I'd also recommend all 3 of Ken Henderson's books. Here is the SQLTeam Book link:http://www.sqlteam.com/store.aspTara Kizeraka tduggan |

| If you want to get certified on SQL Server 2000 there are a lot of books in the market. But as mentioned by Tkizer, you wont find a book that covers all the needs. Nothing is more important than hands on experience no matter how many books you read.I would suggest that you go for the SQL Server 2005 certification which will be introduced soon if you want to be current with your certification. But it requires hands on experience as 2005 is a big improvement from 2000 and includes many new features. There are only a handful of books on SQL Server 2005 and the best way is to go through the BOL which comes with SQL Server. Of course, its your choice what certification you want to go for. Thank you for your response. May I have the links or any resource regarding SQL Server 2005 to be introduced soon. The only information from Microsoft is this page: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcdba/requirements.asp It is still MCDBA 2000 |
