Hi guys,

I just need to know what are the duties and responsibilities of
MS SQL Server DBA. I'm asking this because our DBA has resigned and I was appointed to replace him.

Thank you very much.

why did he resign?

quick way to find out the duties and responsibilities is by signing your new contract (with the corresponding salary increase), should be there...

OK, good question. Wikipedia has a nice article on what DBAs are typically asked to do.

The duties of a DBA are to be cynical and jaded and generally annoy as many people as possible by telling them that they can't do that.

Can you say NO? If you can then you are ready.

You will often be asked to explain why a stored procedure is not working. In virtually all cases, this is the correct answer:
"The reason your code is not working is that it was written by a brain dead idiot."

You will sometimes be asked to grant DBO or serveradmin access to a developer or end user. Ask them to supply a written explanation for why this is necessary. Read the explanation carefully, and then tell them "NO".

"... it was written by a brain dead idiot"

So ... DBO = Dead brain operator then, eh?!
