Team:

Any issues with SP3a? From what Kristen sent me, it seems SP4 has issues and apparently, SP3a will solve the problem that we are facing with the Http Post. Is it fine to upgrade to SQL 2K SP3a?

We are going to be upgrading to SQL 2005 in 2 months anyways but need this SP3A or SP4 for one project. Please advise.

Thanks,
Sri

SP3a is pretty solid. You should be running that release at a minimum anyway.

all MS sp have issues! :). Check the post fix of the latest SP if you are affected by the specific cond (hardware support bugs, etc.) of the SP. If you're not affected, apply SP4. It has been around for sometime now.

May the Almighty God bless us all!

You should really be running minimum SP3a and some security hotfixes, or better SP4 and probably rollup hotfix 2187 (I think). Of course there are issues, but that'd be for you to make sure that your apps still work.

I can confirm that 2187 is the latest cumulative hotfix released.

Installed yesterday after SP4 on a MSCS Cluster.

I'm not aware of any reports that SP3a changed performance or behaviour of any application. However, I have seen quite a few reports of seriously adverse performance with SP4 (usually down to mis-matched datatypes in JOINs etc.).

So I reckon you need a full QA test before rollout of SP4, and ideally that too for SP3a, but if you don't have resource for a full QA test, AND you don;t need any of the bugfixes listed for SP4, then personally I would stop at SP3a.

FWIW we have not installed SP4 on any of the servers we manage.
