I have two tables with names in them that I would like to match. Problem is, the names could be slightly differnet ie:

St. Joseph Day School
ST Joseph Day School

Is there a way to macch these sort-of-like fields?

Thanx

Not easily.
You can use soundex but usually you have to define rules yourself for what you think the match should be.

where lower(replace(fld,'.','')) = lower(replace(fld,'.',''))
would take care of what you have there but there's lots of other things.

You could get some postcode/zipcode software and work off that to standardise your addresses.
It's quite a common problem.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
