Hello everyone

I have a question about DB growth and file groups...

In what sense is DB growing with 5%. Lets say our size is 50MB and growth is 5%. Does a DB becomes 2,5MB everytime our size is reached?

What is a file group? Why are we putting our DB in a file group and how can we see what objects exist in this file group?

Kind regards
A.H.

If your database is 50MB and it needs to grow, then it'll be 52.5MB after the 5% growth. If it needs to grow again, it'll then be 55.125MB. It's 5% of the current size and not the initial size.

You can read about filegroups in SQL Server Books Online. It's done for performance.
