Where I work, they do not allow IIS to be installed. Does this mean that sql server 2005 can not be installed even for test purposes?
Thanks

i believe you can you'll only not be able to try the other features like reporting services, microsoft did recommend not installing iis on a sql server as it is a security issue (or did they? )

have you tried going through the installation? the reporting service may not work correctly if you don't install IIS, I think this is also a requirement for visual studio.net and I didn't install but visual studio still worked ok

--to confirm, i'll try the installation tomorrow

Yes, I have been through the installation.
Do you mean you have installed sql 2005 without IIS in your machine?
Thanks

Yes, you will get an IIS error, but that will only affect Reporting Services. Just skip that and install all the other parts that you want. It won't affect the other components. Same holds true if you install Service Pack 1 and the SP1 hot fixes. Just skip Reporting Services in all cases.

After the installation I can see the Configuration tools but not the management studio.
Do you know what needs to be done please?

it's a separate download from MS, unless you have the cd installer
