Hi
I’m using SQL Server 2000; also I have a static IP address. I would like to assign IP address to SQL Server for access the particular database anywhere using IP address. Are you getting what I’m saying? See some of hosting companies allows to access SQL Server through IP address. like I want to do. So much I tried to that. But I cant.

I used like
Client Network Utility --> Alias --> ADD --> Server Name : <myip>

After done that, I tried to access from other system which is using another network & IP. In the Query analyzer I put myip & password. But I unable to access my SQL Server, also unable to ping.

Please anyone help me. How to do this?

Do you have a firewall installed?

If you are unable to ping to that IP, how do you expect to connect to SQL Server on that IP.

If you have no firewall in place and cannot ping the IP then you have a routing issue, not a sql server issue.

I would check all network cables, from your machine, through patch panels, switches and routers and back to the sql server machine to see if there is a connection.
