Mike writes "I have a MS2003 Server running MS SQL and find that I have a traffic issue. Can anyone suggest the best way to access this server from 3 remote locations? Presently 2 of my remote sites utilizes DSL and the other uses Cable Broadband and all are VPN'd into the server. This current topology is way too slow and almost a complete waste of time to use this way. All 3 remote sites have 3mg down but I think the problem is the 256k up. I have been considering point to point but don't want to go this route if it does not solve the slow problem. Any feed back on this subject would be greatly appreciated." |

Depends on what they are trying to do.You need to minimise the data transfer. If it's an app then maybe have a local layer to do as much of the processing as possible (can do this in stored procedures or .net)If they need to administer the server then use queries to do it rather than gui's.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |
