Hello.

We are upgrading a lot of our legacy hardware migrating the legacy to backup in a different data center. From what I hear SQL 2005 isn't quite production ready yet. I was wondering if people here are agreeing with this and if we should steer clear of 2005 for a few years. We are not doing any development, just using it to run a db of users and systems for a management and scheduling program. We do plan on implementing some redundancy in the new deploy, clustering most likely. We are also migrating to server 2k3. So basically I'm looking for input on things to steer clear of during design. Will there be major problems going from sql 2k on server 2k to sql 2k on server 2k3? I'm I better off looking at sql 2k5 on server 2k3?

any input would be appreciated, I'm kind of out of my normal realm here and looking for some advice/steering.

Thanks guys!

2005 is production ready (the second Service Pack is almost ready) and I would definitely recommend that you use it from the start - it's one thing to stay on 2000 and not rush to upgrade, but if you are planning a new installation I cannot see any point in installing 2000 now.

Hi,

Since u r planning to migrate to Windows 2003 it ideal to migrate your SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. SQL 2005 is already proved in large enviornment and apart from that to get the full features of 2005 it should run on Windows 2005(like applying passowrd policy etc). There are many enhancement from 2000 in Security and performance point of view.
