| this is probably a newbie question but when im installing sql server on a basic win xp pro machine, can it act as its own local server to have its own databases?the reason i want this is for development from my laptop.if possible is there a guide around for this? |

| yeah ive installed from the sql server ent cd we have, and its installed, but i think its only installed a client to connect to other databases not host its own |

If it is a WinXP, It won't install the server component from Enterprise CD but only the client. KH |

Developer Edition is not free. It comes with MSDN subscription or you can just purchase it. KH |
