Hello, i just bought sql server 2005 with 5 cals (previously i was using a shared sql server with my previous host)... I probably should have asked this question before i bought it... i don't understand how the cal licencing works... the sql server is for running our ecommerce site, i just got a dedicated server to put this on... but from reading the licencing does this mean that only 5 internet users can access my website(or the information in the database) at a time??? any help with this would be appreciated~ Moe

Yes that is correct.Typically you need to purchase CPU licenses if you have external users accessing your system.Tara Kizerhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/

Hi Tara,Thank you for the reply, i was doing some more research before i checked back on this. i called this company hosting.inetservices.com/dedicated-premium2.html because i thought its strange that they would have a dedicated server with sql that could only connect 5 users at a time. The tech/sales over there said that all the internet users coming in through the http port would count as one licence, all my https users would be considered another licence, if i telnet in to the server that would be a third licence. So basically they said that each different way someone can connect to the server counts as a licence... is this information correct?

As I know, you need per processor license for web apps.
