I have a question about our new server ( With Opteron CPU's 64 Bit), which I amplanning to use as a database server (SQL Server 2000 32 Bit). Since, The Architecture for this new machine is different from what we were using before (Intel based). I would like to confirm that Question: The Machine works fine without those switches and SQL Server is able to see 16GB with or without enabling AWE switch in SQL Server. Do we need to have AWE switch ON or can I leave it OFF?1)I am looking for some kind of white paper/document explaining how the memory access is implemented. Especially How SQL Server works with this Memory Architecture. Your help is much appreciated2) Should I just migrate from SQL2000 32bit to SQl2000 64bit? Migrating to SQl2005 is not an option at this time. What do you guys think? |

You still have to enable awe since you use 32-bit sql2k, same settings as on 32-bit OS. And there is no x64 version of sql2k. |

The Microsoft support site said there was a release of SLQ2000 64 Bit, which was release at the same time as service pack 3. Any truth to that? |
