| You can do MCAD - Microsoft Certified Application Developer for SQL Server 2000. but before take some free certification like brainbench..etc |

| The MCAD is mainly aimed at people wanting to do vb.net and I think that SQL exams are elective exam on that course, However if you are wanting to do database’s the MCDBA is the best option. I am currently going through this qualification but even on this path there are only to exam on sql 70-229 – SQL Server 2000 Design and development 70-228 – SQL Server 2000 Administration The other to exam on the course one is to administrate a windows 2003 server and then there is an elective exam which you can take any exam of you choice like vb.net or C#If your on a budget just do the to exam above there are very good. I have completed the 229 and working towards the 228, but even after passing the 229 and have average to intermediate knowledge of SQL the best way to learn is to do loads of practice and learning tricks and take advice of people on here that have been using SQL for years and are masters in the subject.Another option as well is the new exams that are based on SQL Server 2005, there are different from the MCDBA this taught you both development skill and administration skills where as the new one are designed to concentrate more on just one of the two Hope that helps and good luck |

| My advice is not to go running after certifications unless you have thorough knowledge on the subject and that comes only from practice, not from certs. And also, if you want to do certification, go for new MCITP - DB Developer certification in Sql 2005. Doing MCDBA will again require you to take an upgrade exam to become MCITP.Harsh AthalyeIndia."The IMPOSSIBLE is often UNTRIED" |

I agree, the new certifications are a completely different structure, and will replace the old ones. It's just not worth spending all that time studying for something that will be discontinued.Drew"It's Saturday night; I've got no date, a two litre bottle of Shasta, and my all-Rush mix tape... I heard something along these lines so I contacted Microsoft, and was informed that if you have completed the full MCDBA is better than the new exams. Currently they are more like an upgrade at the moment and they are thinking of doing a similar thing to the MCDBA for 2005 this henches only doing one exam for each of the new qualification’s at the moment so in other words they are just an mcp in essence. Plus the new exam’s expire in three years but the MCDBA will never will according to Microsoft.Don't really fully understand as I thought the point of new exam was to as we all say to concentrate one aspect either developer or admin. But I must admit having taken the developer exam and now working towards the admin one it does cover the same things really and could of be crammed all into one exam in my opinion. But please remember that the MCP certs are only really a way of getting a little leg up to try and get into a SQL job. I know that a lot of people on here don’t like the certs and tell you that they are a waste of time. But the reason that I have taken the exam’s was I had limited knowledge and employers did not even entertain employing me even as a Junior Developer or DBA without some proof of knowledge, however after passing the Developer exam I was offered an Junior Developer job in weeks still learning every day though.Just think of the certs and a stepping stone to the profession and nothing more apart from something to show that you have good to intermediate knowledge or SQL dev/admin |

i'm taking the 70-431: implementation and maintainance next week.it's the mcts exam and the first of the 3 you have to have to become a MCITP: sql dev which is the goal.i'm taking it because my company is paying for it and wants to have titles for it's reference and points at MS.at the moment the service broker is killing me because it's not a very used techonolgy and we don't have a need for it but on the exam you can get a few questions on it...about 3 year expiration... i think this will change._______________________________________________Causing trouble since 1980blog: http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/mladenp |
