Hello,

I have Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and i have a software that uses a SQL Database.

Yesterday i tried to back up my Database, The procedure i followed was:

Choose the Database to backup --> All tasks --> Backup Database

I specified a name for the backup, in "Backup" i selected Database-Complete, choose a destination, in "Overwrite" selected Append to Media and Schedule i left blank.

After this procedure finished "backing up", my database doubled it size. My original database was 223 MB in size and after this procedure it size was 446 MB.

Is there any way that i can restore my database original size? After this procedure, do you think my database could be affected or something?

In waiting of your comments.

Thanks in advance.

"My original database was 223 MB in size and after this procedure it size was 446 MB"

What are you measuring that has this increase in size?

Size of BACKUP file? MDF / LDF file? Reported database size? Something else ?

Making a backup doesn't increase the size of your database

DB file size doesn't affect performance, leave it if the machine has enough disk space.

Looks to me like the Backup is being appended, so the original Backup file has now doubled in size from 223MB to 446MB

It may be empty space, that may get truncated later to a size closer to it's original size (if the server is setup to do so). It's not really anything to worry about.
