Hi guys, just a question about removing SQL 2000 + SP4 and then reinstalling SQL 2000 + SP4.I noticed when i reinstalled SP4 it doesn't give me the option for "upgrade Microsoft Search and apply SQL Server 2000 SP4 (required)" during the SP4 Setuphowever it does give me the option for "Enable cross-database ownership for all databases (not recommended)" option. Is this normal when trying to do a complete reinstall after uninstaling the program?Cheers |

I built a test server and installed SQL 2000 sp3 and then applied SP4, uninstalled it all and tried again (same steps when i initially built it) and it gave me both options. The production server doesn't give me both options when i reinstall, just the cross-database ownership option.I built the test server to the same specifications (hotfixes/patches for OS and SQL) as the production server.I believe this problem goes with another problem i am having:http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=83150 |

In short, the link above is about a problem i am having restoring a database from:Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2039 (Intel X86) May 3 2005 23:18:38 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1) to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2187 (Intel X86) Mar 9 2006 11:38:51 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1)I get the following error:"the backup of the system database on device c:\backup\master.bak cannot be restored because it was created by a different version of the server (134219767) than this server (134218488) RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally"The option for "upgrade Microsoft Search and apply SQL Server 2000 SP4 (required)" during the SP4 Setup is the only difference in the install between the 2 servers.so thats all i can think of for the problem i am having.I have rebuilt the test server twice and having no problems restoreing the mast DB - just this damn production server is giving me the problems.Any help/pointers would be appreciated.Regards,MZ |
