Depends as always. If data source is not sql db, you may do nothing. You can find AS details in books online.

thanks for answering but can you give specific details from your experience? i can find out the info from books but id like to know what other peoples experiences are. i know it varies from people to people so im not expecting everybody to have the same. i just want to know what other peoples experiences are and how they differ.

If you really want to know more about OLAP you should contact an expert or to refer to a book.I had a book on OLAP which i found pretty informative. The book is available on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Multidimensional-Data-Modeling-Toolkit-Intelligence/dp/0981775306 & you can buy an e-book directly from the publisher by writing OLAPWorldPress@gmail.com.
