installed 2005 on my laptop.

how do i find out my server name?

if you didn't type in a name during installation, it's the name of your machine...go to services and you'll see the name

or connect to local
then do a select @@servername

1) Are you using VISTA? If so, have you run the "User Elevation Tool"?
2) On a laptop, you can always connect to "(local)" instead of machinename.
3) Do you get any errors?

if it's sql2005 it's not mssqlserver anymore... it's sql server
