What does it say in the box when it fails? It should indicate a reason for failure. Future guru in the making. |

First, are you planning to connect using SQL Authentication or Windows NT Authentication? You need to know the connection method on the SQL Server and then pick the appropriate choice in the ODBC configuration. If you select SQL Server Auth. you will want to check "Connect to SQL Server to Obtain default settings for the additional configuration options" checkbox and then type in the login ID and password for SQL Server. If you selected SQL Authentication and put in a username and password it would fail prior to the test if that was the issue. Have you clicked on Client Configuration and checked the properties there? By default it will use TCP/IP, the server name should be in there also (or IP) and the port will be dynamic (1433) in grey. What you need to make sure of is that the server name is correct and that you can reach the server by the name from the machine you are configuring (test it with PING). Also, if you have a port other then 1433 configured for SQL Server you may want to plug it in. Also, you can check your surface area configurations on the SQL Server and make sure you are allowing remote connections. Future guru in the making. |

| Does openlink use SQL authentication? Don't thinks, sounds nothing to do with sql server at all. |
