what is the difference between left outer join an left join ?

Left outer join pulls all records back from the left table and only those that match in the right table. Left join pulls only records that match in both tables.

No. LEFT OUTER JOIN is equivalent to LEFT JOIN. LEFT JOIN is just the short form, just like you can say JOIN instead of INNER JOIN.
