I'm running SQL Server Express 2005 on Windows XP.I've been using SQL Server Express for the past month or so, and I've always been able to connect. Now all of a sudden I can't connect, it's giving me error 26.I've always used Windows authentication with no need for a password.

Error 26..Error Locating Server/Instance Specified? or is there a different message? Is the SQL Server service running, and are you sure you typed the right server name when trying to connect?I have a stupid question for you...

Yes, "Error Locating Server/Instance Specified"The server name hasn't changed either, I've been running the same one since I've installed it.

rmiao: How do I do that?dataguru: As far as I know, I've done all those things listed, except adding sqlbrowser.exe to the firewall exceptions. I couldn't find that file. The only thing I can think of is that I just ran a Windows update, could that have messed something up? I guess I should also mention that I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005, but I don't know if that changes anything. Thanks for all the replies by the way, I appreciate the help.
