I have a dilemna and I'm not sure if there is a resolution. [Background] Our Network Administrator purchased a 64 bit AMD box for us to use with SQL Server 2005. That all worked fine. However, the company didn't approve the budget for SQL 2005 and we are forced to install SQL Server 2000 on this box. Unfortunately the 64 bit SQL 2000 only runs on Itanium machines so we were forced to install the 32 bit SQL 2000.

I am very familiar with configure SQL Mail on our other 2000 boxes so I've created a MAPI Profile on the box and Outlook and Express both can easily pull the emails using Exchange Server or POP3 (Express). However, SQL Server will not recognize the profile for either SQL Mail or SQL Agent Mail.

I've found all kinds of articles explaining how SQL Mail doesn't work in the 64 bit SQL Server and that we should use Simple MAPI (Express) to get SQL Agent Mail working. However, we aren't using 64 bit SQL Server so that doesn't really apply and I can't find anything definitive about our environment.

Does anyone know of a way to get SQL Mail or SQL Agent Mail working in 32 Bit SQL Server 2000 installation on 64 bit Windows 2003, or have an article that definitely says it CAN NOT be done?

Thanks in advance,
Dalton

Lot of things don't work in 64-bit as I know, possible to put 32-bit os on it? You got 32-bit sql anyway.
