hello

Currently I have this database DB1 6GB of size.

Every Saturday night I have a full backup (.bak file)- and my backup size is 5GB
Every 4 hours (4am, 8am, 12 nn, 4pm) - everyday - I run transactional backup (.trn file)
From Sunday to Thursday - each trn files are very small( 2MB is the max size.

Come friday morning(4am .trn file) - grows so big - 5gb .trn file. same size as my full backup. but the rest of the friday .trn file is small.

My question is how will I investigate this one - why it is happening .. and how can I make all my .trn file small.

Please advice.

Jeboy

You have to take transaction log backup frequently to avoid this scenerio. Use DBCC shrinkfile to shrink log file.

My question is why is the tran log growing so quickly overnight on Thursday. If there is a large import of data, you may want to backup and shrink immediately following that job. Reindexing will also cause trans logs to grow. Check these out in order to anticipate a large growth spurt in the trans log.
