Hi trying to install some educational software that uses msde for a database, I'm using a computer with an Amd triple core phenom processor and have read that this whats preventing msde from installing. Is there a workaround? The software in question will not use sql express.

I tried both msde and sql express both failed with the same error messages, used the alternative workround steps and sql express installed.

Yeah I knew about it in SQL Server 2005, wasn't sure about 2000. I doubt that there is a workaround for this except to use an older computer. You could try opening a case with Microsoft for help on it, but since SQL 2000 is no longer supported you may just waste money on the case.

Sorry that I don't have a better answer for you.

When you say that the software doesn't support sql express, does the software do a version check? You can run a 2000 database inside SQL Server 2005/2008 by setting the compatibility level to 80.

Once the database has been restored to SQL Server 2005, you just right click on the database, go to properties, and then to Options. From there you can change the compatibility level.

Hi chrbb,

Were you able to get MSDE 2000 installed on your Phenom triple-core machine?

Also, I'm curious, is this an HP box?

Thanks.
