How do I get my own custom title?

I've seen everything from 'Pointy Haired Yak DBA' to 'Chief SQLTeam Crack Dealer', and I want one.

Is there some kind of minimum requirement? Do I have to pass an exam? 3 months of hard labour on a farm?

And, if I qualify, who do I tell?

I can't tell you how urgent this is.

Bad move.

If you ask for a custom title, you're not getting one.

Heh. We typically bestow custom titles on people after they "stick around" for a while and we can get a feel for who they are and why a particular title is funny. "Sticking around" has come to mean to mean over 1,000 posts. Just keep answering questions :)

Well I saw that joldham was a bit of an exception to the trend, and thought I'd try my luck

I guess I've blown it now, eh, Michael? Unless there's something in what Nigel is saying...? Who do I make cheques payable to?

I've got a title which suits me and I think is witty, but I'll hold on to it for a while. Just worried someone will use it before me. Can I reserve one? LOL.

Is there some kind of funny handshake I'm going to have to learn? And are there 3 rules? Rule 1 - you do not talk about SQLTeam; Rule 2 - you do NOT talk about SQLTeam...

Actually nobody picks their own title. The idea is that it reflects how we perceive you on the site. There were a few people that got titles early. For example, how could you not call Justin Bigelow the SQL Gigilo.

Ah, that changes things. My witty and appropriate idea is now redundant. And patience is now therefore back by my side. Thanks graz.

Clever works. Igor got a custom title with only a few posts, "More clever than you"

Somtimes, you just have to inspire people:

I think he gave as good as he got:

"If definition "the ingenious developer" - that who writes a confused code with errors, you are an ingenious developer! If definition "the average developer" - that who writes a clear code without errors, (also finds errors in a code of the ingenious developer) that I am an average developer."

I was told the following

1) Stand facing person.
2) Raise both hands to side of head
3) Allow humbs to touch side of head, then wiggle fingers simultaneously
4) Lower hands
5) Roll up left trouser leg
6) Raise left leg
7) Put right hand under (raised) left leg
8) Hold hand of the other person
9) Hop in an anti-clockwise direction while repeatedly raising and lowering left arm and singing the Abba song Dancing Queen

That's how I got my custom title

I believe that some people have gotten custom titles by asking.

And I remember a little while ago (actually probably a few years ago) when some kid came on and made a right big deal over getting a title.

Of course, they haven't been the sort of title that you would necessarily want to have ;)

edit - Ahah! I found one of the threads (though not the first one I don't think, that may have gone)

I think it would only be fair to give Igor a chance to respond to such an accusation Spirit

I think we should email him and ask for his comments on the "improved" solution

Steve,
I can't believe you gave away the secret handshake!

Ryan,

Since the word is out, all you have to do to get the custom title is this:
1. Video tape yourself performing the secret handshake, while wearing only this:
http://www.cafepress.com/sqlteam.3628435
2. Post the video on the web.
3. Post a link to the video here.

There you have it. If you want it enough, the rest is up to you.
