Don't you lock/delete the user as well?

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

Locking/deleting/editing posts is a moderator function. Apparently locking users is an administrator function. I'm at the PASS Board meeting but I'm going to look into this when I get back.

If you lock the user does that kill them off in their current session, or can they still get away with posting until they disconnect?

(Just curious)

I have no idea. I've been curious about that myself. I may be able to figure it out when I look at whether moderators can lock accounts.

Speaking from my usual hobby-horse!! that is a result.

The thread did NOT show up in Active Topics after your deletion, and in the Forum List [at least] it has reverted to the date of the last "real" post - 04/26/2007

If you delete a Spam the "date" of the post is that of the "last post" it contains, not the date of the newer (now-deleted) spam. So it doesn't appear in the various lists as a New Postings.

I think that's a good thing.

Of course if someone posts a follow-up in the thread saying "This is spam" then that will tickle the thread's latest-posting date - unless you delete the Spam and the follow-up!

All that power, eh?!

i really don't see a problem here, K-bot

the spammer didn't contribute anything to the thread so why keep the date?

There is NO problem

If a Spammer adds a post to the Thread it gets todays date.

If you MODERATED the Spam then the thread gets an even newer date.

If you DELETE the Spam then the date REVERTS to the date of the latest post in the thread (i.e. most likely back to what it was before the Spam was added)

This is PERFECT to my way of thinking, and why I think that Deleting spam is better than Moderating/Censoring it.
